Hi! I'm Aimee.
I'm an integrative health researcher who thinks growing food is powerful for the mind and body. Read about my green-ish thumb below and my creds (if you care) at the bottom of the page.
Thumbs Turn Green with Practice
I've gardened outdoors for 10 years. I've made loads of mistakes and learned a bit each time. My thumb gets a little greener every year.
But, no matter the successes or failures, my garden is always my happy place. It's a comforting and forgiving space. In fact, we recently bought a home and turned most of the backyard into a garden... we're not done yet :) See the before and after pics below. Not shown in the picture are my hubs, toddler, three chickens, and two pups. We all love growing and eating fresh food together.
Here's the funny thing about my growing adventure... After quite a bit of practice outdoors, I was still intimidated to grow indoors for years. I had played around with herbs, lettuce, and tomatoes, but everything else seemed complicated.
You may know what I mean... just google indoor gardening and you'll find a lot of overly-complex info. I mainly blame the indoor marijuana growers. That's no shot at them, but growing weed strains is way more scientific than growing lettuce. You don't need to complete a dissertation on light spectrum and ideal hydroponic or soil nutrient profiles to successfully grow some basil on your kitchen windowsill.
That's why I want to make indoor gardening more simple and intuitive. I want you to leave this site feeling confident in growing food indoors.
You can expect to find practical strategies + support here at GVI and I'm really excited for all of us to grow good food together!
Ok, I have a confession... there's an angle.
This site also exists to grow wellbeing.
If you read my creds below, you'll see that I'm passionate about helping folks boost their wellbeing. And... growing food as a hobby promotes good mental and physical health. So, expect to find lots of healthy content here at GVI :)
